Scott Johnson is a sculpture artist based and working in Wanaka, New Zealand.
He is currently exploring and creating forms inspired by nature, including the recent ‘Dandelion Project’ – a series of large scale kinetic pieces. His latest series ‘Oceanic’ explores themes from rugged coastal areas of New Zealand’s South Island.
Scott works predominantly with materials and techniques borrowed from industry: heavy corten steel rusted by the time and the elements, high polish stainless steel.
The method of creation is often visible in the ripples of the welding, sometimes hidden by the high polish finish, giving the impression of a work being appearing fully formed without the visible hand of its creator.
Scott’s work is collected and exhibited around New Zealand.
