The Dandelion Project – Grandad
Dandelion is an ongoing project, begun in 2019.
The original inspiration for the work came while roaming trails around Wanaka and being mesmerised by the seeming lightness and strength of these seedheads toughing out a stormy day. The idea came to massively scale up this display of natural strength in the face of adversity.
The Dandelion series has evolved over several iterations, from singular elements, multiples, some being seemingly caught mid wind-gust and others super-sized with additional heavy steel leaves at their base.
This version, titled Grandad, towers above the other Dandelions at over four and a half metres tall and features heavy steel leaves at its base which, despite their bulk, also shift lightly in the breeze.
